Cold

This time of the winter suicide and love both prevail
Why not? - the parks are full of romantics on ice-skates
while family's and engaged couple's cliche cards fill the mail

But you - you're just like me
Smiling, though inside you scream

You can hear them all together, singing songs by the fire
with their families and lovers in a lighted up house
While you sit on the floor of your room by yourself - lights off
Kept warm by the gun in your mouth

The ambulance sirens accompany all of their carols
while the kids making love in the room up above complain of how loud it all was
Your father and mother awake to a call - what a shame you hadn't talked in awhile
The girl that you wanted but were too scared to tell
Unaware, from a party, she texts you a semicolon smile

But you - you couldn't take one more night of feeling that way

You could hear them all together, singing songs by the fire
with their families and lovers in a lighted up house
While you sat on the floor of your room by yourself - lights off
Kept warm by the gun in your mouth
You could hear them all laughing through the walls of your home
What invasive laughter. What frequent alone
You - you couldn't take one more night of feeling that way again

It's darker now with all these lights out reflecting their colors in the snow
than it's ever seemed before.
You just lay on the floor
I guess you must have been scared sitting there all alone
