Stop

the sky is too dark to navigate
the ice is too thin to cross
the trees are far too dense to wander without getting lost
the light from this old candle's burned too low to see to walk
I guess this is the end of all my searching
I guess here's where I stop

where the city towers tower over and you can't see the top
and they bring to mind the towerin' trees - but these are made of rock
I found a job in a general store putting groceries in a box
I guess this is the end of all my searching
I guess here's where i stop

her eyes were bright as a kerosene
set fire to the prairie
and her smile was one I'd save to have no matter what the cost
I'd never seen a view like her from any mountain top
I guess this is the end of all my searching
I guess here's where I stop

Her husband then he entered in and asked about our stock
I answered him and glanced again at his lady as she walked
he stood a mile high and showed his gun and revealed he was a cop
I guess this is the end of all my searching
I guess here's where I stop

then out from the back a fragile man who yelled when e'er he talked
announced the store he'd run for years the government had bought
We boarded up the windows and the doors were shut and locked
I guess this is the end of all my searching
I guess here's where I stop

I couldn't find employment in the town for all was lost
and the harvest in the farmlands had been ravaged by the frost
so I pointed my boots toward the pines where I first began this walk
I guess this is the end of all my searching
I guess here's where I stop

the sky is too dark to navigate
the ice is too thin to cross
the trees are far too dense to wander without getting lost
the light from this old candle's burned too low to see to walk
I guess this is the end of all my searching
I guess here's where I stop
